This Guide relates to ALL Creality3D CR-10S Upgrade Kits:

Introduction

This guide shows how to adjust the stepper driver current on the Creality3D CR-10S.

The CR-10S does not have a digiport adjustment to adjust the current for the stepper motors, instead it uses potentiometers that are manually adjusted to control the current for the stepper motors.

Compatibility

The Guide is compatible with the following machines:

Creality3D CR-10S

Additional Information

For printers that are using a controller that uses digiports (Ultimaker, Prusa I3 MK3/S etc.) the current for the motors can normally be set by M907 followed by the axis to set and the value in milliamps. For example, to set the extruder stepper driver’s current to 630 mA the following line can be used:

M907 E630

You will need :

Parts

No parts specified.

  1. Switch off the power to the controller.
    • Switch off the power to the controller.

    • Place the controller upside down on a table

    • Unscrew the 5 screws that holds the bottom plate with a 2.0 mm hex key.

    • Use a 2.5 mm hex key and loosen the 4 screws holding the PSU

  2. This image relates to the original CR-10S mainboard. Posterior versions may differ. Carefully move the PSU out of the way so you can access the mainboard, make sure that no cables are detached or comes loose.

    • Identify the stepperdriver for the extruder, (Cable marked with an E)

    • Locate the potentiometer.

  3. This image relates to the original CR-10S mainboard. See Steps 4 to 6 to identify contact points in more recent Mainboards. Be very careful not to touch anything else than the potentiometer with the probe tip, otherwise it might damage the controller.

    • Be very careful not to touch anything else than the potentiometer with the probe tip, otherwise it might damage the controller.

    • Use a Multimeter on the DC voltage setting.

    • Place the negative lead (black) on the negative voltage supply to the board

    • Place the positive lead probe on the small potentiometer on the stepperdriver

    • Power up the controller

    • Adjust the Vref by turning the potentiometer, anti clockwize lowers the value, clockwize increases the value.

    • For DDX (25 mm pancake stepper) adjust to a Vref value around 0.7 Volts.

  4. If You have a Creality3D with the Creality3D V2.0 Mainboard:
    • If You have a Creality3D with the Creality3D V2.0 Mainboard:

    • The negative lead (black) should be placed on the negative voltage supply to the board here.

    • The positive lead probe should be placed on the small potentiometer of the E0 stepperdriver here.

  5. If You have a Creality3D with the Creality3D V2.1 Mainboard:
    • If You have a Creality3D with the Creality3D V2.1 Mainboard:

    • The negative lead (black) should be placed on the negative voltage supply to the board here.

    • The positive lead probe should be placed on the small potentiometer of the E0 stepperdriver here.

  6. If You have a Creality3D with the Creality3D V2.2 Mainboard:
    • If You have a Creality3D with the Creality3D V2.2 Mainboard:

    • The negative lead (black) should be placed on the negative voltage supply to the board here.

    • The positive lead probe should be placed on the small potentiometer of the E0 stepperdriver here.

  7. If You have a Creality3D with the Creality3D V2.4 Mainboard:
    • If You have a Creality3D with the Creality3D V2.4 Mainboard:

    • The negative lead (black) should be placed on the negative voltage supply to the board here.

    • The positive lead probe should be placed on the small potentiometer of the E0 stepperdriver here.

  8. Carefully place the PSU back in it´s original position making sure not pinching or disconnecting any wires.
