Bondtech modified Marlin 1.1.9 firmware

To properly use the Bondtech Direct Drive for CR-10s one needs to update the firmware with our version. There are several reasons why we recommend our version, and the main one is the use of E3D's V6 Hot-End. This Hot-End is using a different kind of thermistor from the original one and will not show the right temperature on your display otherwise.

Another reason why we highly recommend you to change to Marlin 1.1.9 is because it enables Thermal Runaway Protection.


Other Bondtech specific changes

  • E-Step value set to 415.
  • Acceleration set to 500.
  • Load/Unload Filament tweaks.
  • Printer name set to "Bondtech CR-10s".

  1. Download and unzip the new firmware:

    • We have several Firmware versions in that folder, be sure you choose the one that best fits your 3D printer and setup (with or without BL Touch).

    • Click on your option and in the next page hit the Download button.

  2. Power on you printer and connect it to your computer using the Micro USB port.

  5. Open Cura.

    • Open Cura.

    • This guide is using Cura 15.04.3, the version Creality3D is sending with the printer. Newer versions or other slicers can be used in similar way.

  6. Go to Machine > Machine settings in the drop down menu.

    • Set the Serial Port to the COM port your printer is using.

    • Set Baudrate to 115200.

    • Your Serial Port may be different from ours, check Step 3 to find out what port number your printer is using.

  7. Go to Machine > Install custom firmware in the drop down menu. Locate the firmware on your computer and press open.

    • Ensure your printer is connected to the computer at all time during installation.

  8. Congratulation you have now updated your firmware.

    • Move to the BL Touch guide if your printer has one.

    • Otherwise you are done and ready.

    • Perform a bed levelling before using this new extrusion system.

    • DON'T FORGET: Reduce Retraction Distance to 1mm and Retraction Speed to 35mm/s before start using the DDS.
