About the DDX Direct Drive eXtruder for Creality

For BL Touch Users

If you are using a BL Touch, you need to print the DDX Mount for BL Touch. Use parts of this guide: 01. Mechanical Installation Of A BL Touch Levelling Sensor to know how the mount can be installed on the DDX.

You will need :

If you use a BLtouch 3D print the DDX Mount for BL Touch model supplied in this guide.

  1. Before you strip down the Ender-5: download and 3D print the following STL models:

    • Fixture to cut the PTFE tube.

    • In case you use a BL Touch 3D print also the DDX BL Touch mount.

    • After 3D printing the model:

    • Unload material;

    • Shut the printer down;

    • Disconnect the Power cable;

  2. Use the 2.5 Hex Key Unscrew the Belt tensioner.
    • Use the 2.5 Hex Key

    • Unscrew the Belt tensioner.

    • Give the belt some slack, remove belt tensioner to give more access to the belt if needed.

  4. Use the 1.5 Hex Key Unscrew the 2 bottom screws holding the radial fan on the right hand side. Hold and remove the fan shroud.

    • Store the screws in a safe place. You will need them later.

  5. Use the 1.5 Hex Key Unscrew the top 2 screws and release the fan. Gently put the radial fan away before continuing.

    • Gently put the radial fan away before continuing.

    • The fan wires are fragile. Handle them with care.

    • Store the screws in a safe place. You will need them later.

  6. Use the Cutting Pliers
    • Use the Cutting Pliers

    • Cut the zip-tie that holds the main cable.

  7. Use the 2.0 Hex Key Unscrew the top screw holding the hotend cover. Unscrew the side screw holding the hotend cover.
    • Use the 2.0 Hex Key

    • Unscrew the top screw holding the hotend cover.

    • Unscrew the side screw holding the hotend cover.

    • Pull the cover away from the carriage plate.

  8. Use the 2.0 Hex Key Remove the screws that hold the Axial Fan inside the cover. Store the screws in a safe place. You will need them later.
    • Use the 2.0 Hex Key

    • Remove the screws that hold the Axial Fan inside the cover.

    • Store the screws in a safe place. You will need them later.

  9. Use the size 10 wrench (or spanner) Release the threaded push-fit. Use your fingers to unscrew it all the way out.
    • Use the size 10 wrench (or spanner)

    • Pull the PTFE tube from the hotend.

  10. Use the 2.0 Hex Key Unscrew both fixation screws Save the washers. You will need them later.
    • Use the 2.0 Hex Key

  11. Remove the push-fit from the PTFE tube. The push-fit will not be required later. The previously saved screws, the washers, the hotend and the fans will be used during the installation of the DDX.
    • Remove the push-fit from the PTFE tube.

Conclusion

You may now proceed to install the DDX on your Ender-5.

Don't forget you will need the DDX and the Ender-3 Adapter Set to finish the installation.
