Mounting the E3D Chimera to the BMG X2-2

Can you give me a reason why I cannot use the lower two mounting holes on the BMG X2-2 to mount the E3D Chimera. That will lower the hotend by 10mm which then I would only lose 12mm in ‘Y’ but if I you say I shouldn’t then I lose '42mm in ‘Y’.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi, on the rear side of the BMG-X2 there is 5 holes, 3 in the bottom and 2 in the top.

The Chimera uses the two in the top and the center hole in the bottom.

If you want to use the liquid cooled version you will use the two holes in the top and the left and right hole at the bottom. Using only the two holes in the bottom will possibly result in that the hotend is not held in place properly so it is nothing that we recommend, but of course you can try it, just need longer ptfe-tubes so it guides the filament into the hotend.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for the explanation. I am going to use the the bottom left and right holes but I also designed a support block that secures the BMG X2 to the Chimera and to my ‘Y’ plate carriage. I am going to post the whole design in Thingiverse when I am done.
