Thermal Runaway error with PETG (silicon sock is on)

Hi,

I have a CR10S with the full Direct Drive, hotend upgrade for the CR10S (The DDS upgrade kit).. I have set the stepper motor to 4.5 V and running the Bondtech firmware.

When I am printing PETG at 250 degrees or higher, I keep getting a thermal runaway error when the cooling fan is higher than >=50% (I have 50% dialed in after layer 4 in Simplify3D and immediately get the error). The blue silicone sock is on.

Is this normal behaviour? I thought the problem would occur only when the cooling fan is running at 100%?

Any ideas?

Best, Jochem

Hi Jochem, i would recomend that you perform a PID Autotune when using the fan at the setting you would like to use. This way it will modify the PID values so it should be able to keep a steady temperature without issues.
