Jamming of PLA and Flexible Filaments


I’ve successfully printed with Glass filled nylon and Carbon fibers on my Prusa MK3S with your upgraded extruder. However, the exotic filaments seem to print pretty well because they are stiff and strong, but when I put PLA or Flexible filaments into the extruder they jam up rather quickly. I’ve adjusted the thumb screw to 4 turns out for flex and even messed with all sorts of pressures (turns on the thumb screw) all seem to smush the flexfill or PLA then jam it up. The PLA will work for a while (15 minutes) then all of sudden stop extruding, then break off inside the extruder. This leads me to take apart the entire extruder to forcefully remove the filament (PLA or Flex). I have had to take apart this extruder countless times, what a pain!

Anyways, I’ve adjusted everything, again, per the installation guide, but still get jams. What do you recommend???

Please see attached photos for my recent PLA jam. It literally gets stuck in the worst place and breaks off right where I have no access leading into the extruder hole.

For now I can only print with glass filled filaments ;(

Hi Albert, PLA is sensitive to heat and it can be deformed in the heatbreak if it is too hot, this leads to jams in the hotend. I would recommend that you check so that your heatsink cooling fan is running at full speed and so it is not obstructed. Also verify so that it is blowing towards the heatsink.

What cooling fan are you using for the heatsink?
